January 17th, 2008 Go Go Gadget…Mac? 9 Comments

If you know anything about me, you know that I don’t do….Macs. Can’t stand em. Don’t like em. Despise em. I used to have one when I was 5. My dad was a computer engineer, so we always had a few computers laying around the house. I had one with the black screen and the font that was green. You had to purchase games in 5.25 diskettes that came in blue and black from the weekend computer show. *flashback*

But since then, I’ve been a PC chic. Gateway all the way. Dell can go to hell. *yeah, it rhymes - on purpose*

About the best thing Apple has ever created was the Ipod, and the only reason I purchased it was because it came in pink. *shrug*

product-air.jpgBut yesterday, I watched good old Stevey announce and show off his new MacBook Air. And he made me want one. I mean, not bad enough to actually purchase one. But…I must admit my credit card hand was twitching.

I mean…it’s aight. I guess.

$1800.00 huh? Hmmm… I wonder how many of these are going to fly off the shelves. A lot, I’m guessing. The same way the Iphone did…the exact same way. Folks standing in line with drool bibs and diapers on, trying to keep their place in line to get the new grand fabulous MacBook Air. Sounds like fun. Yeah…I’m being a hater. Whatever.

Anyways, I bought a new printer yesterday because I needed one that does duplexing for the office. But I bought the wrong one, unfortunately. I wanted the one that had wireless networking, since it obviously wont fit on my desk. But I grabbed the one that requires an ethernet cable. I mean…they look exactly the same, with the exception of the ports in the back. So… instead of trying to repack it and strain a pinky toe returning it to BestBuy, I’m gonna go ahead and just purchase a Wireless USB Hub. Nevermind the fact that I just purchased a 7 port USB hub last week. *sigh* But… a girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do.

January 16th, 2008 Thank God for Backups… 12 Comments

Yesterday, around noon, our whole little private “hill” - community lost power due to the new luxury townhomes that they’re building at the bottom of the hill. I wanted to spit when my computer screen did that whole little surge thing, as I was in the middle of a project.

Oy Vey. But thank God for backups!

I spent yesterday from 12pm until about 5pm…asleep. I mean, there wasn’t anything else to really do. I had already been to the gym, and I was dead tired from getting home super late the night before *womp womp womp - that’s all I have to say about that*.

When incog got here, we went to the mall…yay for picking up my spirits. After that, we went to the movies and watched “The Kite Runner“. Yeah, we’re late, but that was a good movie! So good! It’s one of those dramatic feel goods. I dug it.

By the time we got back home, the power was back on the hill. I was worried about all of the food in the refrigerator, but despite the fact that the power was off for 10 hours, it was still good. Yay!

Thank God for backups…when I powered up the CPU, everything was saved on the server, and I was able to pick up where I left off and meet the deadline that I had today.  Woo hoo!

January 12th, 2008 The Wrong Shoes 5 Comments

Yesterday *Friday*, I hit the gym in the morning as usual…only this time, I was running on slow because I went to sleep a little late the night before. When I got there, I realized that there was a sign up list for the Cycle Class and although I hadnt anticipated on doing cycle, I decide that I may as well. I had been doing cycle in conjunction with other cardio every morning since Monday, and wanted Friday as a rest day from the bike, but I mean…the list was there…there was open slots…why not?

When I got in there, there were just a few bikes left in the back, which was cool. I set up my bike to my liking, and started to pedal, just to get a good warm up going knowing that the class would start in 20 minutes. Everything was cool.

When the class started, and she asked us to get into third position *standing, but leaning forward, pressure on your butt and legs and feet*, I nearly died. I realized that I had on the wrong shoes. If you’ve taken cycle or pacing class before you know that the pedals have straps to strap your tennis shoes in, and it’s usually an all metal pedal. Not really a bike pedal with black plastic surrounding it. But an all.metal.pedal. Lol.

As soon as I stood up, I realized that the shoes werent thick enough on the bottom. I could feel the metal just grating into the bottom of my foot. And she wanted me to ADD.RESISTANCE? Ha. Please.

But I stuck through it… I was cringing the whole way through. lol. Glad I stayed in it though. But never will I forget my cycle shoes again! Promise!

I like the cycling class though. Monday - Wednesday, there’s one instructor, and then Thursday - Friday, there’s another instructor. While they’re both female, they have different styles. One instructor likes to talk you through the climbs and assure you that there’s “only 2 rap songs on this CD promise”… and another likes to hop off of her bike and run up to yours and shout at you to go faster and to “put your back into it”. That particular trainer started the class off by explaining how “ghetto” the bikes were because ’ idea of fixing them up was painting the handle bars with black paint, and adding new straps on the pedals. I’m not sure which instructor I like better, however, the first one has more hip hop / r&b music, while the second has more…like….uuuh….non-hip hop and r&b music. ha!

But…that’s my cycle class in a nutshell. I’m excited for next week. Woo hoo!
